  A gunman killed two people and injured three police officers and another resident in the Fort Worth area of ​​Texas on Saturday evening and before firing on himself, police said.


  Haltom City Police Sergeant Rick Alexander told a news conference a man and a woman were killed.  He added that an "old woman" who was called to the scene suffered "non-life-threatening injuries."


  A male officer was "injured in the right arm, finger and his leg," he said.  "Another male officer was hit in both legs and a third was hit in the upper thigh," he said, adding that "everyone was expected to be non-life-threatening."

  "The suspect, an adult male, was killed ..." Alexander said. He had a military-style rifle and a handgun around his hand.


  He added that it appears officers fired back at the time of the incident.


  Police were alerted to the shooting around 6:45 p.m.  The NBC News affiliate NBC5 Dallas-Fort Worth reported on Saturday.


  A lengthy search was conducted for the gunman and residents of the surrounding area were advised to stay at their home, the station said.


  After thanking the public for their help, Alexander said the Texas Rangers would take charge of the investigation.
